Being voted ‘Virtuoso Hotel of the Year 2018’ was the reward for three years of very hard work lighting all the guest areas ranging from the bedrooms, bars, grand halls to the ballroom, golf club and grounds. We wanted this magnificent gothic revival manor house to feel welcoming and romantic so built a scheme using a combination of sensitive heritage lighting, integrated details and discreet fixtures revealing the sumptuous interior finishes, tapestries and stained glass windows.
The new ballrooms feature an opulent gold-leaf ceiling illuminated by a high tech tuneable white LED system with motorised table pin spots to allow for any table layout. All bedrooms were equipped with a full lighting control system allowing the guests to recall scenes or adjust settings to suit their mood and requirements.
Other areas included a high-end boutique, screening room, a day spa (with treatment rooms, pool and retail), restaurants and whisky bar. Externally, we were mindful of light pollution and the rich wildlife and so settled on subtle up-lighting in the rose gardens and important facades, soft highlighting of the Ohgam stones with just a smattering of heritage style lanterns across the estate.
